The complete MindSet technique

Do not memorise a sentence.
Learn how to build one.

Use the same five steps every time you practise. Turkish is there to confirm meaning, not to become a sentence-by-sentence translation habit.

01

Meaning

Decide what you actually want to communicate.

Ne demek istiyorum?
02

Pattern

Choose the tense frame that matches the time and meaning.

Hangi zaman kalıbı?
03

Verb

Choose the correct verb form: V1, V2, V3, or V-ing.

Fiilin hangi hali?
04

Details

Add what, where, when, with who, how, or why.

Ne? Nerede? Ne zaman? Kiminle? Neden?
05

Speak

Say the sentence before you overthink or translate it again.

Çevirmeden söyle.

Learn the verb as an action

Hear play.
See the action.

When you hear the English verb play, try not to first think “oynamak” and then translate back into English. Connect the English sound directly to a picture, movement, memory, or situation.

Old habit

PLAY → “oynamak” → picture

MindSet habit

PLAY → picture / action

Türkçe destek: “play = oynamak” anlamı kontrol etmek için kullanılabilir. Ama konuşurken hedef, İngilizce kelimeyi doğrudan hareket ve anlamla bağlamaktır.

PLAYoynamak
A simple illustration of a person playing basketball

See it. Imagine yourself playing basketball. Hear “play” while the action is already in your mind.

Before the 12 tenses

Four families make

Future: I will play.

Türkçe düşünce: yaparım / yaptım / yapacağım
CONTINUOUS

Future: I will be playing.

Türkçe düşünce: yapıyorum / yapıyordum / yapıyor olacağım
PERFECT

Present: I have played.

Past: I had played.

Future: I will have played.

Türkçe anlam desteği bağlama göre değişir; kelime kelime eşleştirme yapma.
PERFECT CONTINUOUS

Duration leading up to a point

Present: I have been playing.

Past: I had been playing.

Future: I will have been playing.

Türkçe ipucu: “... süredir” fikrine dikkat et.

Positive → negative → question

Do not learn three new systems.
Move the helper.

For most tenses, the helping verb already tells you how to make negatives and questions. Present Simple and Past Simple are the two important exceptions.

PRESENT SIMPLE

+ I play basketball.

I do not play basketball.

? Do I play basketball?

He/she/it uses does: Does she play?
PAST SIMPLE

+ I played basketball.

I did not play basketball.

? Did I play basketball?

After did, return the verb to V1.
THE OTHER TENSES

+ I am playing.

I am not playing.

? Am I playing?

The same idea works with is/are, was/were, have/has/had and will.
Fast ruleNegative: put not after the first helper.Question: move the first helper before the subject.
